[ a couple of hours after trial ends, misa will find mineo (spins wheel) in the tea room. she looks a little bit of a mess, apparently not having bothered to do much in the way of cleanup after trial ended... it's fine? probably?
what's somewhat less fine is the almost timid way she approaches him, her hands crossed over her chest as she holds her black notebook tightly. ]
...hey, Mine-kun, why did you apologize to me earlier?
[he's - spacing out? sort of? it's hard to tell until you get closer, but he looks focused. like he's trying to go over every inch of the room again with his eye, to see if anything new might appear. if there could be any hint of a clue.
but.
then he gets approached and he blinks.]
.... Amane-san....
[ . . . . ]
Because you're a civilian, and you shouldn't have to make scary decisions like that. You shouldn't have to think about things like, 'I have to vote in a way that'll affect someone's life, or else some prick will win.'
[because she was scared.
and he wished he could've done something to make her less scared.]
[ looks at death note? looks at the camera?? lmaooooo??? metagaming aside, that's not exactly the explanation she'd been expecting to hear. in fact, it actually gets her to rally herself back up... you know, as much as a tiny girl like her can. ]
My boyfriend's dad is a cop, and he's going to join the force soon, too. Not to mention, Misa's been a suspect in a widescale investigation! [ beat ] N-not that I did anything, or that I'm saying that was a normal thing to have been a part of! But it's not like the whole thing is Mine-kun's duty either. We all agreed to be here, right? So... no sorry needed!
So... it kind of was. I mean, I left the force and all.... but at least, I know that I'm sort of more used to these situations. Even if it's not an exact match.
[and then he turns to her and frowns]
... and if you were already part of an investigation when you didn't do anything wrong, I'm even more sorry. That's not right either.
[ at first, she blinks in surprise at the cop revealation? ... but then she remembers, like, who l is as a person. so she will cut mineo some slack... but, hm. interesting. ]
... Personal reasons. Sorry. I don't like talking about it.
[that said - ]
But some habits stick. Like trying to help people, or wishing I could do more for them. So... I don't think I can take back my apology. Sorry. I'm sure you can handle yourself... I just hate that this situation makes you feel like you have to.
Is it because the justice you wanted and the justice the police delivered were different?
[ beat ]
You don't have to answer that. It just reminded me of what Greed said last week, when we had the first trial. Because that's what we're supposed to be doing... but it doesn't feel like that at all, right?
I don't really get what we're supposed to be doing, so I don't think you have anything to feel responsible for. And I think that's part of why your apology was bothering me.

... I think 'justice' is a tough concept. I'm still figuring out what it is - after I thought I was really sure.
So... in short, yeah, I guess. We're supposed to be chasing after justice... but this is a pretty broken system of it, right?

[he tilts his head before offering up a sheepish smile]
Sorry about that. It's been beaten in my head a couple times here that I might take this all a little personally.
